Sustainable Practices

The  long-term success of the GB Energy Storage Project depends on the sustainable development of the Golden Beach Gas Field in the Gippsland Basin. Protecting the existing coastline  and marine environment is critical to ensuring the ongoing supply of gas and storage infrastructure can be maintained.

GB Energy are obtaining a number of regulatory approvals associated with the project covering drilling, construction and development, both onshore and offshore. Refer to the Regulatory Documentation section for details.

Key Approvals Granted

The Project has the support of both The Environment Effects Act 1978 (Vic) and The Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

The Victorian Minister for Planning has determined that the Environment Effects Statement (EES) by GB Energy is appropriate and supports the development of the project. The EES process is a significant undertaking and underpins the development of the Project according to environmental parameters and processes. The Project has been classified as critical energy infrastructure by the Australian Government and is expected to support the market and the transition to large scale renewable generation.

In parallel with the EES process, the Commonwealth Department of Environment and Energy has approved the project under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. This underpins the environmental significance of the Project.
